PATRONS!

I used Patreon earlier this week to send you a free copy of Open is an Extreme. If you missed it, hit reply and I'm very happy to send you a copy via email. You could also just hit reply and let me know what's up in your world. I'm always happy to hear from you.

Maybe I'm published

Open is an Extreme, my new ebook.
What's up this week? I've not managed to get out of my February Funk™ and it's March now. I took one step after another all week long anyway. Rationally, I know I accomplished more than enough this week. I curated, designed and published a new ebook, Open is an Extreme: Going to great or exaggerated lengths for humanistic, equitable workplaces. Patrons got a free copy ;)

I have the urge to make this kind of thing free, but I've been told the curation is well worth the cash and truth be told, I spent quite a bit of time on this. That said, like my derby league, I don't want money to be a barrier to entry.

I am taking requests for the next ebook. I've been thinking about doing something around content and design, but I probably won't have a lot of time for it this spring anyway.

After months of finagling, We Are Open Co-op is starting work with Greenpeace. I am stupid happy about this because I couldn't focus that much attention on Greenpeace by myself. I only want to associate with "radicals", and the co-opers are absolutely radical (in every sense of the word), and there's loads of radicals at Greenpeace too.

Maybe I'm competent

I won a Women in IT Award partially because my nomination detailed some of the things I do to support diversity and inclusion of women, non-binary and LGBTQ people in my industry (and in general). Two things happened this week that made me rage drool. 1) I can't tell you about because

"A social norm will be stickiest when individuals have the most to gain from complying with it and the most to lose from challenging it. "

and 2) Watching Elizabeth Warren suspend her campaign. Yeah, yeah, I know they think it isn't about gender. Folks just don't like Elizabeth Warren. And yet, this week the UNPD publishes research showing that 90% of PEOPLE are biased against women.

"The world is not on track to achieve Gender Equality by 2030"

"The higher the power and responsibility, the wider the gender gap—and for heads of state and government it is almost 90 percent."

Just a random few phrases from Tackling Social Norms: A Game Changer for Gender Inequalities. My competence is a problem for me too.A new

Maybe I need help?

What are you doing? I had a big idea this week, big enough to scare me and I started wondering if I should stop having big ideas and watch the birds instead. I know a couple people who sit and watch birds, three if you count Jenny Odell.
