Maybe I'm bragging

We still don't have enough work on to distract me more thoroughly, and I'm curious what might come in this year. A couple weeks ago Doug called the co-op the "Spare Capacity Collective", and while funny, we're also getting towards that "uh oh" feeling that comes when you're not sure what work will come in.

We put in a big ol' proposal for a gig and came in second place, thus we were not awarded the contract. The "grading" system indicated that we hadn't adequately explained our ability to work at scale. We've developed global projects for Greenpeace International, Mozilla, Participate and more. We've done national projects in the UK, the US and projects across Europe. Several years ago, we helped build a programme for Israel's Center for Educational Technology. We ran workshops for all of Change.org, designed things for a digital heritage department at a university in Japan and even ran some learning experiences for folks in the Romanian government. I mention all of this because of what we did wrong in our proposal – we didn't brag enough.

Perhaps it's all for the best. That work would have taken up a lot of life and brain space.

Maybe I'm ok

January is at an end, and I couldn't be more pleased that it's over. In addition to being slow at the co-op, it's not a great month for me personally. It's full of hope for a new year that gets cracked by the devastation of being physically and mentally incapable of becoming a fully different person. It's a month for grief mixed with mental rejection of the human condition and damnit it's cold too.

I've had quite a successful January, truth be told. I did yoga every single day. I continued A Doodle A Day, which I started the day after Xmas. I cut waaay back on my alcohol intake with damp January (I wasn't particularly interested in being completely dry). I finished and started a couple of writing projects. I dug into a project we do have on.

Everything is fine. Here are some more unrelated links :)

Maybe I need help?

How do you all like to read long pieces on the Internet? Because I've got a story for you or a story for me or a story for everybody. It's a short story that has exactly 4,003 words. Technically, it could be a short story in an entire book of short stories and that book might be called "Dystopian Defiance". However, as the entire book isn't written. As I'm wont to start and not finish any number of "books", I'd prefer to share as I go.

And so I present to you – Victoria. The only related link in this entire episode.

I would be very happy to hear your feedback.
